Red River Restoration Group

Molycorp mine (now Chevron Mining Inc – Questa Mine) is located in northern New Mexico near Questa, a small community on the Red River. The river was once a blue ribbon trout fishery but has been contaminated by mining operations and spills and other impacts within the watershed. The US EPA Superfund division has conducted a study to determine the best way to clean-up the mine site and help restore the Red River to its former quality. This website is devoted to informing the public about the proposed clean-up plan and encouraging public participate throughout the Superfund process.  Read the US EPA's fact sheet (48k PDF) and Record of Decision (ROD) released December 2010 (3.6 mb PDF).
